Breed Overview
The Konkan Kanyal is a handsome meat breed from the Sindhudurg district of the Konkan coastal region of Maharashtra. Boldly marked in black and white — with a black body and striking white bands on the face, ears and legs — it is one of India's most attractive indigenous goats.
Sure-footed and well-adapted to the humid, hilly Konkan terrain, the Konkan Kanyal is a relatively recently recognised breed prized locally for its quality meat and its hardiness in high-rainfall coastal conditions.

🐐Physical Characteristics
A medium, agile breed with a black body dramatically marked by white stripes down the face, white ears and white legs. It has backward-curving horns and a lean, sure-footed frame suited to hilly coastal country.
🥛Milk Production
A low 0.5–1 litre/day — enough to raise kids, as this is a dedicated meat breed rather than a dairy animal.
🌦️Climate Suitability
Well-adapted to the hot, humid, high-rainfall Konkan coast. Sure-footed on hilly terrain and more tolerant of wet conditions than arid-zone breeds.
🌾Feeding Requirements
Thrives on browsing the varied vegetation of the Konkan hills, supplemented with a little concentrate for breeding stock. Economical and well-suited to extensive rearing.
