Breed Overview
The Sangamneri is a productive dual-purpose breed from the Ahmednagar, Pune and Nashik districts of Maharashtra, named after the Sangamner region. It is a dependable all-rounder, giving useful milk and good-quality meat while adapting well to the semi-arid Deccan plateau.
Variable in colour — white, black, brown or a mix — the Sangamneri is a medium-sized, hardy breed valued by farmers across western Maharashtra for its balanced productivity and easy management.

🐐Physical Characteristics
A medium-sized breed of variable colour — pure white, black, brown or mixed. It has a straight facial profile, medium flat drooping ears and small-to-medium horns, with a well-proportioned, moderately deep body.
🥛Milk Production
Yields around 1–1.5 litres/day over a lactation of about 175–190 days — a reliable household and small-commercial supply that complements its meat value.
🌦️Climate Suitability
Well-suited to the semi-arid Deccan plateau of western Maharashtra. Tolerates dry heat and moderate rainfall, and manages well under both grazing and semi-intensive systems.
🌾Feeding Requirements
Thrives on grazing supplemented with 300–400 g concentrate for breeding and lactating stock. Efficient on locally available fodder, tree leaves and crop residues.
