Quick Facts
Breed Overview
The Kota goat, also known as the Kota-Karoli, is a meat breed from the Kota and Baran districts of south-eastern Rajasthan. Tall and well-grown, it is valued for fast weight gain and good carcass quality in the region's active meat trade.
Adaptable and hardy, the Kota performs well under both grazing and semi-intensive systems and is a practical choice for commercial meat farming across the Hadoti plateau.
- Coat usually black or brown, sometimes spotted

🐐Physical Characteristics
A tall, well-grown meat breed, usually black or brown and sometimes spotted. It has good body length, medium drooping ears and curved horns, giving a strong frame and good dressing percentage.
🥛Milk Production
Gives about 1–1.5 litres/day during lactation — enough for household use and to raise strong kids, though the breed is kept chiefly for meat.
🌦Climate Suitability
Well-adapted to the semi-arid Hadoti region of south-eastern Rajasthan. Hardy and heat-tolerant, it does well on grazing and adapts readily to semi-intensive management.
🌾Feeding Requirements
Performs well on grazing plus 350–450 g concentrate for finishing stock. Efficient on local fodder, shrubs and crop residues, keeping meat-production costs low.
